Comparisons And Differences between Medieval Japan and Medieval Europe
-Both Europes and Japans societies were built on a system of hereditary classesSimilarities-
Similarities:
-The Classes that were similar in Japan and Europe were:
Monarch in Europe was similar to the Emperor and Shogun in Japan
The Lords and Bishops in Europe were similar to the Daimyo in Japan
The Knights in Europe were similar to the Samurai in Japan
The Peasants in Europe were the same as the Artsman, Craftsmen, Farmers, Fisherman and Merchants in Japan
- In both Europe and Japan the fighters were very important, Knights in Europe and Samurais in Japan. Knights had to follow a code of conduct called Chivalry and the Samurais had to follow a code call Bushido. The two were very similar and talked about how a samurai should act.
Differences:
- Japanese Feudalism was based on the ideas of a chinese philosopher called Kong Qui. Europes was based on Roman Laws and customs.
- The times of the two were very different, Europes Feudalism was established in the 800's but Japan didn't establish it until the 1100's
- Another Difference is the way that Europe's and Japan's people owned the land.
In Europe knights gained land as payment for there services to the lord, and the knights had control of the peasants that worked the land there and gave them a place to live.
In Japan, samurai didnt own the land but the Daimyo paid them from the taxes he recieved from the peasants
